Printing Plant Art Book Fair 2019

Leading up to Printing Plant Art Book Fair 2019, Looiersgracht 60 and the Rijksakademie are collaborating on a series of special events. On four Thursday afternoons in October and November, various guests with different perspectives (and from different backgrounds) will engage in conversations on independent publishing and the role of artists’ books in relation to artistic practice.

No. 1
Artists' Books - Different Perspectives and Forms

An introduction to the artist book. There are as many definitions and ideas on the subject as there are forms and ways of publishing. Our speakers Karin de Jong, Rein Jelle Terpstra and Kie Ellens will talk about past and present practices, touching upon such subjects as collecting, archiving and what it means to be in print today.

About the speakers
Karin de Jong is founder of PrintRoom, a space in Rotterdam dedicated to artists' publications, small press and self publishing projects by artists and designers.

Rein Jelle Terpstra is an artist and arts teacher. He devotes his practice to photography and the study of perception and reminiscence. His latest book 'Robert F Kennedy Funeral Train – The People’s View' has just been awarded with a Golden medal for 'The Most Beautiful Book of the World'.

Kie Ellens is an independent collector, curator, advisor, writer for various arts publications; a member of Art Initiative VHDG and holds the position of Director at Foundation Wall House #2.

Please join us on Thursday 10 October for the first event. Doors open at 3:45pm, the talk starts at 4pm. Admission is free, please reserve your seat by emailing: info@looiersgracht60.org. All of the planned events will take place in the reading room of the Rijksakademie, Sarphatistraat 470.
