For this year’s edition of Selected, the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and Looiersgracht 60 present the addition of daily ‘Afternoon Sessions.’ Hosted by the artists themselves alongside invited special guests, these informal conversations are designed to delve deeper into individual practice and research interests. Together with the members of the jury, artists and lecturers, we welcome you to join - attendance is free and open to everyone.

The Relationship between Humans, Nature and Art within an Urban Context

For Jelle van Houten, the condition of nature – being forever condemned to cycles of change – applies just as much to himself and his work. He invites artist Edward Clydesdale Thomson, who often delves into the tension between exterior and interior. Thomson’s practice is inspired by landscape imagery, specifically the cultural ideology behind the manipulation of nature.
