Special Exhibition Tour with curator Rachael Rakes
1 September 2019

Sunday 1 September is the final day of the current exhibition ‘Decoders-Recorders’ – a double solo exhibition by New York based Steffani Jemison and Hong Kong based Samson Young, co-presented by Looiersgracht 60 and De Appel. Both artists investigate distinct forms of notation, gesture, and alternative languages to articulate suppressed social histories and contemporary predicaments.

Rachael Rakes, the former Head Curator and Manager of the Curatorial Programme at De Appel in Amsterdam and curator of ‘Decoders-Recorders’ will lead the public tour of the exhibition, in which she will further articulate the ideas behind their works. Rakes is an independent curator and writer as well as being an Editor at Large for Verso Books, and Programmer at Large for the Film Society of Lincoln Center where she co-curates the annual festival ART OF THE REAL. Rakes has contributed criticism to Art-Agenda, Artforum, the Village Voice, and Ocula, among other publications and catalogues. Rakes was recently a screening committee member for Cinema du Reél at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, where she curated a retrospective of Tacita Dean.

The insightful tour of ‘Decoders-Recorders’ will start at 16:00 , followed by a Q&A with the audience, after which the event will close with some drinks.

The tour is free of charge; no ticket purchase is necessary. However, due to the limited amount of spaces available, please reserve a place by emailing us at info@looiersgracht60.org
