State of Transparency - Performance and Talk
1 June 2019
On June 1, in conjunction with the exhibition 'State of Transparency', Looiersgracht 60 will host a performance and artist talk. Further details can be found below.
16:30 Performance of GFX
GFX, a performance piece presented by Sam Chua, Johan Ibrahim Adam, Eva Cristina, Henna Vihantavaara, Aleksi Marjamaa andLinda Da Costa combines the digital manipulation of glass sounds with live performance using blown and assembled glass instruments; responding to each player, the resonant qualities, form and movement of air through (and of) the material, echo, distort, mute and cut lines of glass sounds. GFX surfaces the sinews of these bodies of sound, lulling and tensing in a movement that slowly pushes the glass instrument to its extreme.
17:00 - 18:00 Talk with Fahrettin Örenli, Jens Pfeifer and Stephanie Noach
Fahrettin Örenli and Stephanie Noach will talk about Fahrettin's work ‘High Heels’, which is on show in the exhibition. In this talk, Fahrettin will elaborate on the complexity of the work, given its inclusion of light, sound, objects and poetry and the relevance of transparency in his oeuvre. Artist, curator of the exhibition and head of department Jens Pfeifer will then talk about the overarching themes that form the foundation of ‘State of Transparency’.
Stephanie Noach is a curator and writer. Her curatorial projects include: 'I would prefer not to' (Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam, the Netherlands) and the off-site festival of refusal of work 'We’ve got time' (Schloss Ringenberg, Germany). Her writing has been published in various catalogues and journals such as Papeles de Arte Contemporaneo (University of Granada) and Nexo (New York University). She holds an M.A. in History of Art (with honors) from the University of Amsterdam and Latin American Studies with a Concentration in Museum Studies from New York University and is currently studying for her Ph.D at Leiden University.
The public programme starts at 16:30 on the 1st of June, 2019, followed by a Q&A with the audience, after which the event will close with some drinks. Admission is free. Please reserve a seat by emailing: valeria@looiersgracht60.org
