Temporary Bookshop V
21 September – 29 October 2017

Looiersgracht 60’s fifth bespoke bookshop will accompany the exhibition ‘Imprinted Mater’: Dutch-Argentine artist Aimée Zito Lema’s first major institutional exhibition in the Netherlands.

In the exhibition, Zito Lema engages critically with the way in which collective memory works and with how we record and remember the past. She uses her own memory as a personal archive, alongside images associated with the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo, who lost their children during the dictatorship in Argentina between 1976 and 1983. Combining intimate, personal experiences with pressing socio-political issues, Zito Lema creates poignant and immediate artworks that grapple with questions about the political and human functions of art.

The bookshop affords visitors the opportunity to further delve into these and other key themes addressed by the exhibition. Featured is a selection of books on art, philosophy, history and photography, including several titles which inspired and informed Aimée Zito Lema.

Temporary bookshop V is a collaborative effort between Looiersgracht 60 and Athenaeum bookstore.
