On 9 May 2019, Looiersgracht 60 looks forward to hosting 'Auspuff', a one-day exhibition showcasing the works of twenty-one students from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie’s Photography department. Curated by renowned photographer and course tutor, Johannes Schwartz, the exhibition will bring together photographic and film-based pieces from both first year and third year students that, through a diverse multitude of ideas, approaches and viewpoints, question the meaning of the word ‘dependency’ and reflect their own personal attitudes towards photography.

The department of Photography at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie is dedicated to fostering autonomous artistic practises that approach the established technical, conceptual and theoretical branches of art in a critical manner. Collaborations with other departments and opportunities to exhibit work outside of the academy are fundamental to every course, where progressive thinking and radical action are constantly encouraged through close-knit classes.

'Auspuff' is one of a number of annual shows held at Looiersgracht 60 that are reserved for emerging artists and creatives. We are committed to giving talented students from selected art academies the opportunity to display their work in a professional gallery setting and thereby to reach a wider audience in Amsterdam.
