Chambres Des Canaux - The Tolerant Home
1 November – 17 November 2013
From 1 to 17 November 2013, the city of Amsterdam hosted Chambres des Canaux: The Tolerant Home, a citywide exhibition celebrating 400 years of tolerance. The phenomenon of tolerance in Amsterdam purportedly has its roots in the period of the construction of the city’s famous Canal Ring, which began in 1613. The exhibition Chambres des Canaux was curated by Siebe Tettero and focused on contemporary artists who have a connection with the city and whose work explores the theme of the event: tolerance. Prominent canalside properties were invited to participate in the event and to host exhibitions. Looiersgracht 60 hosted an exhibition of thought-provoking pieces by Nathaniel Mellors, Charlotte Dumas, William Monk, Gert Jan Kocken and Daya Cahen.
