From Seeing to Acting - Film Screening
Radical Reversibility
3 October 2021
Julian Ross (UK) has curated a special film programme connected to the theme of the exhibition, From Seeing to Acting which will be screened on Sunday, October 3rd. Ross is a researcher, curator and writer based in Amsterdam. He is a programmer at the International Film Festival, Rotterdam, a member of the selection committee at Locarno Film Festival, and Assistant Professor at Leiden University Centre for the Arts in Society (LUCAS).
The film program includes the following screenings:
Foyer (Ismaïl Bahri, 2016, France, 32 min)
“A film / a fire. The sheet of paper / the cinema screen. The film’s title refers to the formation, however ephemeral, of a foyer of looks: the filmmaker and the passers-by look on together at the piece of paper [placed in front of a camera lens], commenting on the ongoing experiment.”
One Thousand and One Attempts to be an Ocean (Wang Yuyan, 2020, France, 11 min)
“[The film] reflects on the experience of not being able to see the world with depth perception [...] It's about a desire for groundless waves, blended with today's inexorable entropy of our information societies.”
Generator (Takashi Makino, 2011, Japan, 20 min)
Distant aerial shots and close-ups co-exist in Takashi Makino’s evocative abstract film that explores superimposition as a way of visualising what’s invisible in his response to the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami.
From Seeing to Acting, is the second group exhibition organized in collaboration with Radical Reversibility, a Dutch art and research collective that investigates the connection between image and perception. From Seeing to Acting proposes a paradigm shift in the ways we perceive and process visual information. The installations, videos, photographs, and sculptures on display engage our moving bodies, challenge our points of view, and encourage us to see beyond the surface of objects. From Seeing to Acting will be on display at Looiersgracht 60 from September 16th to October 3rd, 2021.
The film programme will run twice in the afternoon of October 3rd beginning at 13:30 and 15:00 respectively, the entrance fee per screening is 5 euros and seating is limited. Please reserve a seat by emailing us at info@looiersgracht60.org. Please note that according to Dutch governmental COVID regulation we will need to check proof of vaccination or a negative test result from 'Testen voor Toegang' upon entering our public programming events. We thank you for your understanding.
