Glamcult - New Fashion Perspectives
15 April – 24 April 2016
What does it mean to be a fashion designer in 2016?
This is the question that ‘New Fashion Perspectives’ will be posing from April 15-24. This ten day exhibition by Glamcult Sudio and fashion curator Hanka van der Voet will be held in collaboration with Looiersgracht 60.
This exhibition is about analytically viewing the fashion world in light of the game changing technological advancements revolutionizing the industry. Young designers find themselves challenged by these developments vis a vis an increase in the consideration afforded to craftsmanship and sustainability. Meanwhile consumers find themselves questioning the emotional value of fashion altogether. Our young designers wrestle with this multifaceted chimera while eagerly redefining the boundaries of the possible, drawing their audiences into the design process and encouraging critical thinking with an emphasis on storytelling.
23 young fashion trailblazers have been selected to critically engage with six themes: Sustainability, New Technologies, Craftsmanship, Body Politics, New Materiality and Social Design. Designers will include Sophie Hardeman (NL) whose work debuted this season at New York Fashion Week, Hannah Williams (UK) who constructs striking sculptural works out of latex, Marie-Sophie Beinke (BE), who employs expressionism in her search for meaning, and Charlotte Tydeman (GB), whose work engages with the political connotations of the human body.
