Friday - Printing Plant - Opening and Performances
23 November 2018

Looiersgracht 60’s bespoke book fair ‘Printing Plant’ is accompanied by an exciting public programme. The carefully curated events shine a light on an inspiring range of perspectives pertaining to the artist book and independent publishing. The programme includes an exciting line up of talks, lectures and workshops. We look forward to opening up the world of art book publishing to the general public while affording industry professionals the opportunity to encounter fresh perspectives.

On Friday November 23 you can join us for talks, readings and the official opening party:

One Liner
An artist talk with Amie Dicke and Mark Smith
14:00 -15:00, auditorium

Artist Amie Dicke will discuss her new project ‘One Liner’ with Mark Smith, a journalist and a contributing editor at Fantastic Man. His features also frequently appear in titles such as The Times, the Observer Magazine and The Gentlewoman. They will deliberate on the spatial representation of art in books and the concept of ‘close distance’ that Dicke’s work often explores. ‘Close distance’ refers to Dicke’s practice of photographing images, distancing them from their source while at the same time getting closer to details and selected elements.
‘One Liner' is on display for the first time at ‘Printing Plant’ in a closed display case, as a means of creating distance between the book and its audience. The artist would also like to address the possibility of turning this book into a widely available magazine to increase accessibility and closeness.

Please note there is limited seating available for this event. Tickets are € 3 euro and are available here and at the venue. For more information, please email valeria@looiersgracht60.org

Printing Plant x San Serriffe, Tea Readings
15:30 - 16:30, office

Focusing on self-published material, Amsterdam based bookstore San Serriffe is a treasure trove of exceptional books on art, theory and design publications. It is also host to a vibrant weekly programme of book presentations, talks, performances and conversations concerning publishing culture. During Looiersgracht 60’s book fair ‘Printing Plant,’ San Serriffe is organising Tea Time Readings, an event where visitors are invited to take a break from the bustle of the fair and enjoy a cup of tea in the quiet office space at Looiersgracht 60. Here they will be accompanied by writers and publishers who will be reading from their recently published work. The Tea Time Readings on Friday will present work by Asja Novak and Line-Gry Hørup.

Asja Novak – Three and a Half Corners of the House
A graduate of Sandberg Institute’s Critical Studies department, Asja Novak, works with writing, translation and film. Novak’s interests in feminist, de-colonial and queer theory are explored in her recent short essay film, Three and a Half Corners of the House, a work which explores the relationships of care between women and their families.

Oda Haugerud - Living Dead Surplus
Oda Haugerud (1990, SE) is an artist living and working in Amsterdam after graduating from the Fine Art Department at Gerrit Rietveld Academie this year. She sees her work as “body essays" mainly situated between materially based sculpture, installation and text. The core of all work, independent of the chosen material or media, is her interest in dissecting capitalist scripted notions of the body, particularly through leakage as a means of resistance. In her essay Living Dead Surplus (2018) she underlines a Post-Erotic condition where loops of economy intertwine with the body through an industrial metabolism.

Attending the readings is free of charge, however there are limited places available, so please email valeria@looiersgracht60.org to make a reservation.

Amsterdam Art Weekend Open Gallery Night: Official Opening Printing Plant
17:00 - 21:00

Performance for the Book
Performance by An Onghena
17:30 -18:00 and 18:30 -19:00, auditorium

The opening of Looiersgracht 60’s book fair ‘Printing Plant’ will be accompanied by a performance by the Belgian artist, An Onghena. ‘Performance for the Book’ was developed during a one-year residency at the Jan van Eyck Academie. The work looks at a number of aspects related to book making as well as both the love of paper and the feelings of frustration related to it. In her work, Onghena explores the contents of books and their physical features such as the folding, binding and cover. Her performance is a visual experiment in giving life to paper, offering a living, human dimension to the fair and an artist’s insight into what books mean for their makers. During the course of her performance Onghena reads out a series of instructions that are executed by a performer. Through this process, a performer and a regular, large piece of paper become partners in a dance, forming sculptures and pushing the boundaries of each other’s physical capacities as they go along.

Printing Plant x ODAM x Amsterdam Art, a curated music event
