Sunday - Printing Plant - Talks and Workshops
25 November 2018
Looiersgracht 60’s bespoke book fair ‘Printing Plant’ is accompanied by an exciting public programme. The carefully curated events shine a light on an inspiring range of perspectives pertaining to artist book and independent publishing. This year’s programme includes a varied line-up of talks, lectures and workshops, thematically divided into two general categories: the achievements of women in the field of (art)book publishing and writing, and the architecture of the book and its relationship to space. We look forward to opening up the world of art-book publishing to the general public whilst affording industry professionals the opportunity to encounter fresh perspectives.
On Sunday you can join us for several exciting lectures, readings and workshops:
Printed Matter in Fashion
Talk by Warehouse

Warehouse is an Amsterdam based platform initiated by Elisa van Joolen, Femke de Vries and Hanka van der Voet that aims to provide a place for critical fashion practitioners by creating an engaging environment that facilitates dialogue and an alternative fashion discourse that goes beyond seeing fashion as a commodity. Recently, Warehouse has supported and produced a number of projects that explore with a critical eye, the trademarks of fashion. Some of these projects are Press and Fold, V*GUE, A Magazine Reader, Portaland Monument. During their talk at Printing Plant, Femke de Vries and Elisa van Joolen, along with Jan Schoon, will share insights on how they dissect fashion magazines, make fashion publications, approach the garment as carrier and medium and redefine the role of the wearer and the maker.

Soft Fiction Projects is an artist run initiative led by artists Alessia Cargnelli and Emily McFarland. Soft Fiction Projects have recently launched Doris, the first issue in a series of limited-edition publications that present artists responses to selected contemporary and modern writers. As part of ‘Printing Plant’, Soft Fiction Projects are organising a workshop in which participants will be invited to collectively produce a visual, mixed media response to a text selected and read by Soft Fiction Projects. The main text to be explored is Laura Mulvey’s 1973 essay: Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema, specifically the second section entitled - B. Destruction of Pleasure is a Radical Weapon. The material results from the workshop will be included in a section of the second edition of the publication.
